Based in Chicago, Ian is a Principal with Concentric Equity Partners, a private equity firm with approximately $650 million in private equity commitments under management. Concentric is primarily backed by a large family office and focuses on business, financial and healthcare service companies. He is responsible for originating new investment opportunities, executing new investments and working with portfolio companies. He serves as a Director of Arrow Environmental Services, LLC, Intra-Op Monitoring Services, LLC, Marathon Data Systems, LLC, Mortgage Contracting Services, LLC and Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, LLC.
Ian has been a member of the FMI Advisory Board since the institute was founded in 2006. He is a member of the executive committee and chairs the External and Internal Relations Committee. He has introduced the institute to several potential employers, he regularly hosts the scholars for an alternative investments workshop during the annual Chicago Road Show and this year arranged for Erika Olson, author of Zero Sum Game, to address the students. Ian believes that gaining exposure to a variety of career paths in the areas of investment banking and private equity will prepare students to make good decisions about their own career choices and help them plan for the future.
Prior to joining Concentric, Ian spent two years with the Edgewater Funds, a Chicago based private equity firm. While at Edgewater he focused on sourcing new investments and working with portfolio companies with a focus on business services and healthcare services. Before joining Edgewater, he spent five years with Lincoln International, an investment banking firm based in Chicago. Previous to Lincoln, Ian spent two years with GE Capital Corporation in the corporate lending department. He also worked for a joint venture between GE Capital and The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ian received his Bachelor of Arts in finance, with honors, from Michigan State University in 1997 and his M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2005. Ian is a member of the Chicago Private Equity Network.
Ian commented, “It is really rewarding to get to know FMI students and to help them understand what a professional career in the financial world is really like. It’s exactly the type of organization that I wish was in place when I was at MSU.”
